Oakley Inc. which is based in southern California, was started in 1975 by Jim Jannard, by selling motorcycle handlebar grips out of the back of his car at motocross events, he called them the "Oakley grip". The grips Jim made for motocross were very successful, but were covered up most of the time by riders hands so most people had no idea what Oakley was. That all changed though in 1980 when Mr. Jannard released a pair of goggles the O Frame with the "Oakley logo" on the side creating what would become a national icon.
